Magic Bauliana, Bangla Folk Song’s Reality Talent Show
Bangla folk songs are loved by all walks of people. These songs are still popular and relevant among the masses just like the good old days. To properly credit ‘Baul’ songs and to make the new generations aware of these amazing melodies, in 2013, for the first time ever, ‘Magic Bauliana’ was organized to find new talents in folk song. After the overwhelming response from all over the country, we have started working on presenting our folk songs to the entire world. As the continuation of this goal, Asia’s biggest folk fest- Dhaka International Folk Fest was successfully organized. The fifth season of Magic Bauliana is about to start again in 2025 as a continuation of the activities of Sun Foundation and under the aegis of Magic. After qualifying a few rounds, three artists will be selected as Bauliana winners. Their winning prize will be an incredible surprise. Baul Shafi Mondol is a well-known figure in the world of Baul music in Bangladesh. Since 1983, he has fully dedicated himself to Baul songs. He has also received training in classical music. Through an organization named "Bhavnagar," he teaches Baul music. He is currently serving as a respected judge on the Magic Bauliana reality show.
Sumi is the vocalist of the Bangladeshi fusion band “Lalon.” She inherited her musical talent from her father, Amjad Hossain, and received classical training from Ali Ahmed and Nasir Haider. She has popularized Baul songs among the younger generation by blending folk with rock elements in a new style. Among her released albums, B-Protip (2007), Khyapa (2009), and Pagol (2012) are notable. She is currently serving as a respected judge on the Magic Bauliana reality show.
Partha Barua is a member of the Bangladeshi popular music band ‘Souls’. Many of his songs, such as "Nisshongota" and "Saradin Tomay Bhebe," are still hugely popular among the young audience. Besides being a musician and composer, he has also served as a judge in music reality shows. He regularly appears as an actor in TV dramas and films as well. He is currently serving as a respected judge on the Magic Bauliana reality show.
